The School of Creative and Performing Arts in the Faculty of Arts, University of Calgary invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Drama Design. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2017.

The successful candidate should have a terminal degree (MFA) and have achieved national and/or international recognition within their career. Candidates must demonstrate an established research and/or research-creation program, including performances, presentations and/or publications and successful post-secondary teaching in the area(s) of specialization. Evidence of excellence in teaching should be demonstrated via a convincing statement of teaching philosophy, strong teaching evaluations, and a clear record of commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, student supervision, and mentorship.  Preference will be given to candidates:

  • with a specialization in the primary area of Theatre Lighting and demonstrated expertise in a secondary area of either Projections Design or Sound Design;
  • who incorporate new media and/or emerging technologies for the theatre in their practice, research and teaching;
  • who are also able to teach in the areas of Theatre History, History of Scenography, Costume History or Stage Management;
  • who can expand and enrich the SCPA’s intercultural awareness and expertise base.

Please provide a letter of interest, a current curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, a statement of research interests and an artist’s statement (may be combined but should address both topics), a portfolio of artistic achievements (may include reviews, photographs, video clips), a teaching dossier, relevant publications, and three confidential letters of reference sent directly to the Chair of the Academic Selection Committee.
