Call for Submissions (Edmonton): 2017 Playwrights Forum – The Citadel Theatre

Playwrights Forum, Citadel TheatreA Call to Alberta Playwrights!

The Citadel Theatre is accepting submissions for this year’s Playwrights Forum. This 7th edition of the Playwrights Forum provides intensive dramaturgical guidance combined with a rigorous practical process. The Playwrights Forum runs from June 19 to July 7, 2017. This includes work around the table in an open forum and two weeks with a select company of actors exploring each play’s unique challenges in a practical environment.

We are open to work in a variety of genres that can find a home in any of our four venues: the Maclab’s thrust stage, the Shoctor’s proscenium stage, the intimate Zeidler theatre, and our cabaret venue – The Club. All of our stages insist on a bold imagination and accessibility of theme and narrative. Our interest is in innovative, large vision projects that speak to a wide audience and reflect a diverse approach.

The Forum is open to playwrights based or born in Alberta. Candidates are encouraged to submit material that reflects Canada’s ever-evolving social, political and cultural landscape. We encourage submissions from all Alberta playwrights, including artists who self-identify as members of under-represented communities.

The Citadel will select four participants, each of whom will receive remuneration for this residency.

Please provide a clear proposal and/or draft of your work along with your development and artistic goals during the Forum.

Please submit to bdooley@citadeltheatre.com.

Deadline to submit: January 16, 2017.
