News (Edmonton): Liz Nicholls Leaves Edmonton Journal

– Submitted by Ken Davis, Director, Marketing & Communications, Citadel Theatre

Well, it’s official. Long-time Journal theatre reviewer Liz Nicholls says she is leaving the Edmonton Journal December 2. The departure of Nicholls is part of another round of PostMedia cuts to staffing at newspapers across the country. The Journal is cutting back local Arts coverage to just two days a week with theatre reviews a casualty of the reduction.

Nicholls says she is mounting her own website, to be called (currently under construction) and will be devoting the site exclusively to theatre reviews. She asked us to share this note from her to Edmonton’s theatre community:

“Hello Theatre Artists and Friends!

Meet your new indie theatre writer. Here’s my news, a new adventure/experiment for me in theatre writing.  As of Dec. 2, I’m leaving the Journal, my great base of operations of so many years, with the plan to do my theatre writing on my own website.

Theatre’s my passion, and my continuing education — thanks to you and your generosity! And theatre is what I want to write about, exclusively.

My site isn’t quite ready to go yet, but will be soon, under the name I hope you like the name (I was thinking tragedy, comedy both raucous and romantic, and general weirdness).

Here’s how to find me:, where you can send all your own news, press releases, production shots, all that – and suggestions, of course.

Hoping to hear from you soon! (I’m out of town between Dec. 3rd and the 10th, back after that).

warmest regards,
