Spirit Fire Theatre is seeking to fill the following crew roles listed below for its upcoming production “A Streetcar Named Desire” by Tennessee Williams and directed by Paul Welch:
- Stage Manager,
- Assistant Stage Manager,
- Lighting Designer,
- Set Designer,
- Sound designer/music composer,
- Costume Designer,
- Fight Director
Production Dates: November 13 – 26 in the Victor Mitchell at Pumphouse Theatre.
Rehearsal Dates: Evenings and Weekends, 3 nights a week, beginning September 15.
Payment: This will be a Canadian Actors’ Equity Association production under the Artists’ Collective Policy. Therefore, Equity and Non-Equity members are both welcome to submit for this project. Spirit Fire Theatre is an equal opportunity employer and encourages diversity within its applicants.
Qualifications: Preferred previous experience in project/production management preferably in the theatre or film industry in your chosen skill set.

About the Director: Paul Welch is a Betty Mitchell and Critter Award-winning actor, and he has a BFA in Acting from the University of Alberta, a BA in Psychology and Philosophy from the University of Ottawa, and he is a Certified Embodied Awareness Facilitator. He was recently awarded the Enbridge Emerging Artist Award by Mayor Naheed Nenshi and recognized in Avenue Magazine’s “Top 40 Under 40” for a 15-year career as an award-winning actor, writer, director, educator, and arts administrator. Past directing credits include: The 5-time Critter Award nominated production of Of Mice and Men for Spirit Fire Theatre, Red Riding Hood for StoryBook Theatre, In The Next Room (The Vibrator Play) for Artists’ Collective Theatre, and two years spent facilitating the Queer Theatre Creation Ensemble projects of This is How I Left, which was nominated for a Critter Award for Best New Script, and The Passion of Sergius and Bacchus, both for Third Street Theatre. Paul has assistant directed on Verb Theatre’s The Dandelion Project, and has worked as a Voice, Speech and Text coach on numerous productions in both Calgary and Edmonton.
About the Show: When Blanche, a faded Southern belle, finds her dissipated life crumbling around her, she calls on the kindness of her timid sister Stella for some solace. However, she didn’t factor in Stella’s overbearing husband Stanley, who is intent on maintaining total control of his wife and home ahead of the birth of their first child. Blanche and Stanley are constantly at each other’s throats, and a huge confrontation between the two leads to a devastating fate for Blanche as she finally experiences a psychotic breakdown.
