Brenda Leadlay resigns after 5 successful seasons of Canadian Theatre

Don Anderson, Chair of the Board of the Magnetic North Theatre Festival, today announced the resignation of Brenda Leadlay, the Festival’s Artistic Executive Director, effective 1 September 2016. Ms. Leadlay has accepted a new position in British Columbia, to be made public later this week.

Appointed in 2011, Ms. Leadlay has led the Festival through five successful seasons of Canadian theatre, including Festival appearances in Calgary (2012), Halifax (2014) and Whitehorse (2016), as well as seasons in 2013 and 2015 at the National Arts Centre, the Festival’s Ottawa home base.

“Brenda’s contribution to the Festival’s artistic reputation has been impressive and acknowledged by theatre professionals in Canada and internationally”, said Don Anderson, Festival Chair. “On behalf of the Board, I thank Brenda for her excellent work in leading the last five festivals with challenging, diverse and aesthetically invigorating programming, and wish her well in her new assignment and in the future”.

The Board will shortly announce its plans and process for selecting the Festival’s next Artistic Director.
