North, Chinook, and Edmonton Regions Award Recipients at One-Act Play Festival
The ADFA Provincial One-Act Play Festival, hosted by Grande Prairie Live Theatre May 27 – 28, welcomed representatives from all 9 regions of the province, including Fort McMurray. Saturday workshops were scheduled on directing, stage fighting, auditioning, movement, script work, the business of theatre, and theatre games. The Annual General Meeting and the Opening Reception rounded out weekend activities.
Adjudicator, Scott Swan, longtime theatre director and teacher, and founding Artistic Director of Edmonton’s Northern Light Theatre, approached the task of evaluation from the position of “making something good better.” Direction was assessed by how well the director’s vision united all aspects of the play, and acting by how well the actors behaved truthfully in their imaginary world.
