Synopsis:
John Logan’s Red follows the apprenticeship of Ken, a young painter, under the employment of the volatile and famous abstract expressionist Mark Rothko. Ken’s tasks are simple. He is to mix paint, run errands, and clean up the brushes – but only after Rothko is finished creating. Throughout their time together, Rothko berates Ken for his limited life experience and his personal beliefs about the world and art. When Rothko is commissioned to produce a grand piece for the Four Seasons Restaurant, Ken challenges Rothko on his theories about art.
Characters:
- Mark Rothko: (40-60, Male), Abstract Expressionist, Philosopher, Intelligent, Arrogant, Abrasive
- Ken: (18-28, Male), Young Painter, Curious, Strong work ethic, Innovative, Humble, Naive
