Citadel Theatre announces Daryl Cloran for new Artistic Director!
The award-winning 42-year-old director, who has worked at most of the major theatres across Canada except the Citadel, replaces Bob Baker in September at the helm of Edmonton’s largest theatre complex. Baker leaves that post July 1 after a 17-season tenure in his hometown, to be artistic director emeritus, with a two-year contract to run the Banff/Citadel professional program. Cloran’s appointment was announced Monday.
[Cloran] considers “online storytelling, and interacting in an online space, part of the future of theatre. More than just tweeting about the show coming up,” he laughs. “Finding ways to extend the story, or interact with it, online… The sort of things that push our understanding of what theatre can be.”
Says Cloran: “Edmonton has such a rich community of actors, directors, innovative theatre-makers, a reputation for a vibrant theatre culture…. It’s my job to get out there and get to know them, get a real sense of what the community is about. It so appeals to me to part of that community. And the potential, the opportunity to play on a grander scale: it’s very exciting!”
