Unique Multicultural and Multidisciplinary Event Celebrating Global Folklore and Mythologies
The 2016 Thousand Faces Festival of Mythic Theatre, now in its fifth year, is a unique multicultural and multidisciplinary event celebrating global folklore and mythologies that make up Canada’s cultural mosaic.
Dates: June 17 – 19, 2016.
Location: Alberta Avenue Community Centre, 9210 – 118 Avenue.
Mark Henderson, the visionary behind Thousand Faces, had a goal to bring many nations from the Edmonton community together, and have their stories told through art forms like theatre, music, dance, and visual art. He was inspired by Joseph Campbell’s seminal book about world mythology titled, “The Hero with a Thousand Faces.”
This three day festival is host to two different programs – A Mythic String of Pearls, an evening with stories from different cultures in different languages along with dance, music, food and drink from many ethnic restaurants surrounding the community centre, and Mythic Family Jewels, an afternoon of family fun and special cultural experiences with festival artists.
Mythic String of Pearls: Friday, June 17 & Saturday, June 18 – 7:30pm.
Mythic Family Jewels: Saturday, June 18 & Sunday, June 19 – 1:00pm.
Cost: Donation at the door.
