Last-minute call for auditions
December 7
(If you do not have interest in this script but would still like to be seen as a general audition, please read through to the end and provide some available times on the audition day. We will do our best to accommodate you!)
The dates and synopsis are below. We’d start rehearsing approximately March 21, 2016, with full-time rehearsals. The specific times and weekly sequence of those rehearsals are not currently set.
King Kirby
by Crystal Skillman and Fred Van Lente
April 15 – 23, 2016
Victor Mitchell Theatre
Pumphouse Theatres
The play follows the life and times of Jack Kirby, the great comic book artist who created or co-created Captain America, the Avengers, Thor, Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Iron Man… the list goes on and on. Kirby pours his quintessentially Twentieth Century life into his comics, only to make the fateful mistake that sends him into obscurity while his creations become known to every person on Earth.
I have cast two of the roles in a 5-actor show: I’ll be looking to audition you with either or both of the actors depending on the scene.
The play covers a lot of time in Kirby’s life, and other than Kirby, the rest of the cast plays everyone else in his life, from brief encounters to major characters that span much of the play.
TO AUDITION:
E-mail jason@sagetheatre.com and indicate if you are available December 7 for an audition, and what time of day. We have some flexibility regarding when, so if it’s in the evening or afternoon, we can accommodate.
The audition will consist of you working with our Kirby a few times, where we’ll try some different choices to see how the scene plays out.
AVAILABLE ROLES:
- Roz – Kirby’s wife and partner.
- Joe Simon – Kirby’s artistic collaborator and co-creator of Captain America
- Fox / Goodman / Liebowitz – publishers owning a line of comics. This role also covers performances of Fredercio Fellini and General Patton, among others.
