Fundraiser (Calgary): View from the Inside – WP Puppet Theatre

AViewFromTheInsideView from the Inside is a puppetry based arts project exploring the experiences of Calgarians who struggle in different ways with mental wellness. In Autumn 2015, professional project leaders will guide participants through an art making process where stories inspire the creation of mask – body puppets. Funds raised through Invest YYC will be matched by another confirmed funding source.

Emerging research suggests that creative arts therapies and experiences can help to reduce anxiety and increase self-esteem and quality of life. View from the Inside will give participants the opportunity to bring to light their experiences of challenge and resiliency through art making, storytelling, drama and movement, live puppetry performanceandmedia technologies.

While the individuals who participate in the program may face many barriers including homelessness, learning delays, and isolation; a common thread that binds us all together is the essential experience and fluid nature, the highs and lows, of mental wellness. Participants will explore their creativity, problem solving skills and stories of hope.

The project results will be featured in 2016 at This is my City Festival and at WP Puppet Theatre’s Puppet Power: Connecting Generations conference.
