Roses, wine and spirits fly around the crazy carnival of life; a portal to another reality emerges in The Garneau Theatre!
The world premiere of a brand new play is going live at Edmonton’s own historic Garneau Theatre (Fringe BYOV #26)! Redstart, written by Daniel Greenways, is a descent into the mind of a relationship on the ropes. It is a journey through space and time seen through the eyes of a fortune telling machine in an abandoned carnival. Redstart is a challenge for the audience, a challenge to the form, and a challenge to the way we look at time.
Redstart had a live draft reading at Nextfest earlier this year, followed by a period of development in which Governor General’s Award winning playwright Colleen Murphy, along with Edmonton theatre aficionados Vern Slipetz, Feo P-S, and Andrew Ritchie, leant their hands as mentors to the script.
The production stars Sydney Williams, Andres Moreno and Daniel Greenways. Sydney Williams is well known in Edmonton for her Cappie Award winning work in high school theatre with Strathcona, and her work in previous Edmonton Fringes in the Scona Alumni Theatre Co. productions of RENT and Dogfight. Sydney and Daniel are both alumni of the Citadel Young Companies. Andres has made appearances in productions at MacEwan Univeristy at Red Deer College, both of which he studied theatre at in recent years.
Redstart is directed by University of Victoria’s Rain Mair. Redstart’s art design was done by Evan Klapstein. The show’s sound designer is Connell Stinnissen, a local musician who performs guitar and vocals with Edmonton punk band Woodhouse.
Redstart contains strong language and is not recommended for children.
