Overview
The Theatre Arts Department at The Banff Centre is committed to the commissioning, development, and production of new works in all major performance disciplines. This flexible self-directed residency provides the perfect opportunity for artists generating new work in the performing arts to spend focused time on their project in a professional theatre environment.
Typically projects fall into one of the two following categories:
Creation Residency: A program to develop a new work in its initial creation phase in The Banff Centre’s studios.
Production Residency: A program to develop a new work in its production phase in The Banff Centre’s theatres.
What does the program offer?
The Banff Centre offers a range of work spaces and facilities depending on participants’ needs and availability. Artists can create in our dance studios, performance venues (including two theatres and a cabaret-style club), and theatre production and design shops (set, costumes, lighting, and sound). Who should apply?
We invite project proposals from artists, artistic collectives, and companies. Artists at various stages of artistic practice are encouraged to apply, whether they are at the conceptual stage, ready for development and production, or preparing for presentation. Adjudication is based on artistic merit and the ability of The Banff Centre to help realize the project.
