The Edmonton Journal is reporting that former church could be transformed into a new performance space and arts centre.
Edmonton city council received an update this week on the former Victory Christian Centre, a 1,000-seat auditorium at 11520 Ellerslie Rd.
Arts companies based in central Edmonton could use the auditorium as a cheaper rehearsal space or a venue for mini-shows, opportunities to build new audiences in the family-friendly suburbs. One group that’s already performed at South Pointe is Theatre Alberta group member Opera Nuova.
Representatives for the project will meet with city council in August to present the business case for South Pointe, including costs of upgrades and an operating model.
