Submissions (Edmonton): Intern Directors – The Citadel Theatre

citadel_clr_on_blkThe Citadel Theatre and the Banff Centre are currently accepting applications for two Intern Directors.

Now in its eighth year, the Citadel/Banff Centre Professional Theatre Program offers an advanced creative and professional development opportunity for emerging and established directors. The successful applicant will assistant direct on one of two mainstage productions at the Citadel (either Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf or West Side Story), and will be a full participant in the Professional Theatre Program, which comprises four weeks of classes and workshops at the Banff Centre, and one week of additional training in Edmonton.

The Intern Director program culminates in a directing project involving participants of the 2016 Acting Program. This project involves 12 hours of rehearsal in Banff and Edmonton, followed by a staging on the MacLab stage at the Citadel Theatre. There are no technical elements, and there will be no public performance.

To apply, please send the following information:

1) A detailed resume of professional activities, particularly relating to professional theatre experience.

2) A letter of interest, detailing reasons for wanting to participate in the Program. You may also specify whether you would prefer to be considered as the assistant director on Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf or West Side Story, and the reasons for your choice.

3) A detailed description (no more than 300 words) of a potential project to direct within the Program. The proposed project should be brief (up to 10 minutes), and may incorporate music, dance, and scene work. The project may be a self-contained piece, or it may be an excerpt from a longer play or musical. It may be from the existing canon, or it may be original. Please note that the description of this project does not necessarily commit the successful applicant to the project as part of the Program – other projects could be considered, in consultation with the Program Director.
