Beer! Popcorn! Wits!

This vibrant, bold and hilarious event with the slogan “Show us your wits!” has quickly become a highly anticipated experience of the Calgary Theatre Season, with sold out Late Night Cabaret performances for the past three years. This year the festival is expanding to include a Women in Improv Night (Hosted by Karen Johnson-Diamond and Nicole Zylstra), a staged reading of The Clinic by Alice Nelson (Featuring Elinor Holt, Helen Knight and Cheryl Hutton) and a Women in Theatre Panel Discussion (With Karen Hines, Val Planche, Nikki Loach, Ellen Close, Julia Wasillewski, Janelle Cooper, Jamie Dunsdon and Meg Braem).

“The vision for the festival has always been to keep growing it every year, so that by 2017, Calgary is home to an International Women’s Theatre Festival” says Urban Curvz’ Artistic Director Jacqueline Russell. “This year we are excited about the breadth of artists involved from our incredible local talent pool, and next year we plan to expand our reach nationally. It’s exciting to be building on a event that our audiences find so exhilarating.”

For the fourth annual Late Night Cabaret, more than 30 brave, smart, funny performers will flash their wits on the West Village Theatre stage. The 2015 lineup features a variety multi-disciplinary performances with everything from an atomically correct Ovary and Uterus puppet built by Pape and Taper Puppet Troupe, to the excruciation of a junior high school dance with The Tighty Whities Clown Ensemble.

Other featured performers and creators include: The Wrong Kind of Girls Ukulele Band, Award Winning Playwright Meg Braem, Sketch Comedy Troupe The Late Late Breakfast Show, a Bearded Lady Burlesque from Vancouver performer Beth Scozzafava and more!
