Murray Utas
If Fringe Theatre Adventure’s new Program Director’s name rings a bell, then it’s probably because as a patron of the Edmonton International Fringe Festival you have attended one of the numerous productions he has been involved in over the past twenty years. Or perhaps you are familiar with Nextfest (Edmonton’s multi-disciplinary emerging artist festival) where he has been the Festival Manager since 2008: facilitating the professional development needs and exposure of a generation of Edmonton’s young artists. Or maybe you are one of the thousands of high school students from smaller Alberta communities touched by his work with Azimuth Theatre: a company he worked for as a young actor before graduating to a senior staff position in 2003. Or perhaps – if you hail from elsewhere – you experienced his work with Great West Theatre in Fort McLeod, or Chemainus Theatre in BC, or one of his national tours with Stuck In A Snowbank Theatre. Maybe that’s why his name rings a bell. Or… maybe he was your neighbour back in the day, back in Bashaw, Alberta? Maybe that Utas kid grew up following a web of country roads that eventually led this prairie boy to the Edmonton that he now calls home.

Edmonton Scene Study

Edmonton Scene Study is for emerging and professional theatre practitioners (actors, directors, playwrights…) to share in the reading of plays.
The world of theatre is so rich and vast that we should be encouraged to explore it. Not only does the play come to life as we read it aloud, it broadens our knowledge of theatre, our skills in cold reading and warms the relationships we have in this theatre community. All theatre lovers are invited to join the group, enjoy meeting fellow artists, and share a scene from a play.

Edmonton Scene Study will be hosted once a month, so please come and be inspired and join the Edmonton Scene Study group on facebook for all updates.
