CHEERLEADER! READING AT THE TIMMS CENTRE
Show goes on for one-night only to raise funds after fire
Human Loser Theatre is grateful to announce that in the wake of the devastating fire at The Roxy Theatre, The Timms Centre for the Arts at the University of Alberta has offered a home for Cheerleader! for one night only this Sunday January 18 at 8pm. Cheerleader! was originally scheduled to open tonight as part of Theatre Network’s Roxy Performance Series.
As all costume and set pieces were destroyed in the fire, the company will perform a stripped down staged reading of Morgan Smith’s sharp, darkly comic script, with proceeds going to recoup Human Loser’s losses, as well as towards an eventual mounting of the full production in the future.
“While we’re heartbroken to not be able to present the fully staged version of the play at this time, we’re thankful to have the chance to share a little slice of Cheerleader! with the public this weekend,” — playwright and producer Morgan Smith
Tickets for this special presentation are $20, and will be available in person at the door, and sales will be cash only.
Human Loser Theatre was founded by Morgan Smith and Ryan Hughes in 2002 for the production of Cheerleader! at the Edmonton Fringe Festival. Its mandate has been to create and produce work that finds intersections between classical themes and popular culture, while exploring humanist philosophies.
