About the Play: This is a world premiere production of a new Canadian play. It’s your typical high school garage party in the suburbs of Calgary. Amanda’s a genius. Ily’s a drug dealer. Daniel’s a good kid. Will has ADHD. Kit is a runaway. Mutt is a mess. It’s an explosive combination. Youth is a dangerous time. Everyone’s just trying to fit in. Everyone’s just looking for a place to belong.
Casting Notes:
This is an ensemble production. We are seeking strong actors with previous theatre experience who work well in a collaborative environment.
Roles:
DANIEL – 17
Only child, who moved to Calgary last year. In December his mom died in a car accident. He’s taken a lot of time off school and his dad rarely lets him leave the house. He writes songs, but doesn’t show them to anybody. He’s started dating Will and it scares the shit out of him.
WILL – 15
Youngest of eight siblings. He draws compulsively and wants to be a tattoo artist even though he is afraid of needles. He has ADHD and is in remedial everything. He came out when he was 13, but has never had a boyfriend. He might be in love with Daniel.
ILY – 18
Dropped out of high school and got kicked out of his house. He smokes weed every day and lives in Amanda’s garage. He sells pot and collects swords. He is a natural leader who wants to believe the best in everybody. His heart is bigger than his head.
AMANDA – 17
90% average in all AP classes, she is a maternal figure with a mean streak. Has a 4 year old brother, her dad’s gone and her mom visits her boyfriend in Kelowna. When she turns 18, she and Ily are going to get an apartment together. She thinks about that apartment all day every day.
KIT – 15
A runaway. She collects butts and rolls her own cigarettes and could live out of a backpack for years. Met Mutt at a punk squat, and she doesn’t know whether to trust him anymore.
MUTT – 18
Dropped out before high school and got kicked out of his mom’s house at 14 and every place since then. Never says no to a drink or a drug, he gets into fights often and has never had a job. Kit is the last person he has left.
