Our hearts go out to the Edmonton theatre community at the loss of the historic Roxy Theatre due to fire, home to Theatre Network, Nextfest, and countless independent Albertan theatre companies.
The roof of the theatre on 124th Street collapsed after a fire broke out early Tuesday morning. The Roxy Theatre was built more than 70 years ago. Its current owner Theatre Network is in the middle of its 40th season, and Nextfest was set to celebrate its 20th year. Human Loser Theatre’s Cheerleader by Morgan Smith, part of Theatre Network’s Roxy Performance Series, was scheduled to open Thursday night. Read more about the fire on the Edmonton Journal’s website.

Theatres are more than buildings. They shelter the imagination.
