CALGARY – After entering into a rebranding exercise in spring 2014, EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts is thrilled to announce its new name and identity, Arts Commons. The new name reflects the Centre’s positioning as an open, creative gathering place, and multi-venue, multi-genre arts facility, welcoming all citizens within Calgary and beyond.

“This new name reflects the momentum that the Centre has been gaining over the last few years, and best communicates where we want to be as part of Calgary’s cultural landscape,” says Johann Zietsman, President and CEO of the new Arts Commons.

“This name was arrived at with the input of community stakeholders from all touch points within our cultural community and in all senses has been a collaborative effort. Our Centre – your Centre – has developed beyond being just a ‘Centre for the Performing Arts.’ In addition to supporting great performing arts, we welcome and are open to so much more.”

Many changes will take place in the Centre over the first half of the new year, which will involve updated signage, better way-finding through the Centre, the grand opening of the new café, Ca’Puccini by Teatro Group, and a new volunteer concierge program. These changes will culminate in a spring launch event on May 14th – more details to come.

“The rebrand is not just about a new logo,” says Henry Sykes, Chair of the Arts Commons Board of Directors. “It is about increasing awareness, and creating a better experience for both our resident companies and our patrons. It is about being welcoming and open to all.”
