News (National): 2014 Governor General’s Literary Award for Drama announced

Each year, the Governor General’s Literary Awards (the GGs) honour the best in Canadian literature. As Canada’s national literary awards, the GGs represent the rich diversity of Canadian literature and its authors, translators and illustrators.

The 2014 GGs for Drama | Théâtre have been awarded to: 

  • Jordan Tannahill for his compliation Age of Minority: Three Solo Plays, published by Playwrights Canada Press.
  • Carole Fréchette for her play Small Talk published by Leméac Éditeur / Actes Sud.

Calgary audiences will have an opportunity to see Mr. Tannahill’s work in April 2015, with the upcoming Western Canadian premiere of rihannaboi95, produced by Downstage. This play is included in the Age of Minority collection.

Edmonton audiences will have an opportunity to see Ms. Fréchette’s work in March 2015. L’unittheatre will be producing her play Jean et Béatrice, directed by Brian Dooley, and the production will include English subtitles.
