Avenue Magazine Calgary and Avenue Magazine Edmonton both recently released their annual Top 40 Under 40 lists for 2014. We were pleased to see representation from the theatre community in both cities’s lists!
Congratulations to Paul Welch in Calgary, and Shannon Blanchet and Christine DeWitt in Edmonton!
The co-founder of Calgary’s only theatre company dedicated to telling LGBTQ stories, Paul Welch helped to develop Third Street Theatre into a $30,000 operation in its first year. His work as a theatre professional earned him the 2014 Enbridge Emerging Artist Award at the annual Mayor’s Lunch for the Arts.
An actor and Supervising Producer with Mosiac Entertainment, Shannon connects with the community through her work in theatre and shares her knowledge with those starting in the business. She manages Teatro la Quindicina’s marketing and development and is a core cast member on Die Nasty: The Live Improvised Soap Opera.
Associate Lawyer at Reynolds Mirth Richards & Farmer LLP, Christine is also on the Board of Directors for Northern Light Theatre, and an improv performer for Rapid Fire Theatre. She has spent her summer holidays in sketch comedy workshops and classes at the Second City improv centre in Chicago.
What makes someone a good candidate for Top 40 Under 40?
Top 40s are the best and brightest in the city. They are all different but they are all high achievers. They include business people, entrepreneurs, artists, designers, athletes, community organizers, politicians, teachers, inventors and more. They give back to the community and elevate the city through their work, whether it be in their career or volunteer work. They inspire us through everything they do.
