Call for Submissions (Calgary): Artist / Collaborator – Mudfoot Theatre

blk&whitcropCall for Aboriginal Theatre Artist

Mudfoot Theatre, concurrently known as Frivolous Fools Performance is seeking a Canadian Aboriginal theatre artist to join us in the creation of an original theatre performance provisionally named River.
River is in its earliest stages of development. We are using puppets, live music, a river, a hallucination and the David Thompson Expeditions as jumping off points for creation, but are in need of our final collaborator before we move forward.

This role would include:

• Participation in research
• Script development
• Puppetry and performance

The ideal candidate:

• Has experience in theatre performance, collective creation and puppetry.
• Self identifies as Canadian Aboriginal, First Nations or Métis.
• Lives in, or can easily commute to Calgary.
• Has an interest in Canadian history and folk narratives.
• Has an even stronger interest in creating and telling captivating stories.

Timeline:
The creation of River will happen in 2 phases. The first phase will be the completion of a 10-15 minute sample of the show to be presented in a workshop in March 2015.
The second phase will begin in June of 2015 with development continuing intermittently into the fall. The creation is projected to be performance ready in the winter of 2015/16. This phase of development will be paid.
A more detailed timeline will be determined collectively based on group availability.

Interested applicants should send a letter of interest and resume to Geneviève Paré and Ian McFarlane at mudfoot.theatre@gmail.com by midnight Dec 7.
Up to three additional support materials may be attached. All applicants will be contacted shortly after the deadline. Successful applicants will be contacted for an interview.

We are an independent, Calgary-based company under the artistic direction of Geneviève Paré and Ian McFarlane.
