Theatre BSMT and Alberta Playwrights’ Network is proud to announce the winner of our 2015 BSMT Dwellers Competition Before the Night Takes Us by Ryan Reese. Performance dates will be May 6-9 2015 at the MOTEL in the EPCOR CENTER for the Performing Arts.
Before the Night Takes Us will receive a full production by Theatre BSMT. The play will also receive dramaturgical assistance from APN in preparation for its production. In addition, APN will provide a one-year membership to APN for the winning playwright.
Before the Night Takes Us also won the 2014 Alberta Playwriting Competition Discovery Prize. You can read an excerpt of the play in the Fall 2014 issue of Theatre Alberta’s All Stages Magazine – click here for the PDF. Ryan also won the Discovery Prize in 2013 for his play Ascending the Blue.
The BSMT Dwellers Playwriting Competition accepts playscripts annually from Alberta residents who are emerging playwrights. Theatre BSMT defines an emerging playwright as one who is actively pursuing a career in theatre or writing and has some experience and/or specialized training in theatre or writing.
