News (Lethbridge): New West Theatre establishes Carol Roberts Volunteer Award

NewWest-newlogoEvery charity has a core of long-term volunteers that assist in delivering their mission in the community, and New West Theatre is no different. Mainly working as our Front of House staff, our volunteers greet patrons when they attend performances, act as ushers helping attendees find their seats, and assist with 50/50 fundraising and program sales. In 1990, when the organization was established we had two volunteer ushers. Since then, our volunteer core has grown to over 120 people with half of them volunteering on a regular basis.

The growth of our volunteer division was single handedly overseen by our champion volunteer, Carol Roberts, who has been assisting the organization since its inception. On August 31, Carol Roberts will be leaving her post after twenty-five years of volunteer service. In honour of Carol’s incredible dedication and commitment to the organization, New West Theatre has established the CAROL ROBERTS VOLUNTEER AWARD. This award will be presented annually to a New West Theatre volunteer who has shown exemplary service and commitment to the organization for a significant period of time.

On Saturday, August 30 during the final performance of SHAKE IT UP!, New West Theatre announced the creation of the CAROL ROBERTS VOLUNTEER AWARD, naming Carol Roberts the inaugural recipient. New West Theatre expresses its sincere gratitude to Carol Roberts, her friends and family who’ve supported her service at New West Theatre (many times by volunteering themselves) and all of our volunteers who have assisted us over our twenty-five years of operation.

About New West Theatre: New West Theatre is a registered Non Profit Society in Alberta and is registered by the Canada Revenue Agency as a charitable organization. We produce five productions annually, and conduct educational theatre programming including Summer Theatre Camps, a yearround Theatre School, and in-school Residencies.
