The Banff Playwrights’ Colony is thrilled to announce that next year’s Senior Playwright in Residence will be acclaimed writer and performer Jani Lauzon. In keeping with the 2015 focus on interdisciplinary creations, Jani’s career has incorporated work as a playwright, performer on stage and screen, singer/songwriter, artistic director, puppeteer and much more. We’re delighted that Jani will be in residence throughout the 2015 Colony working on a number of new projects, including one recently initiated at The Theatre Centre in Toronto entitled Prophecy Fog.
Jani Lauzon is a three-time Dora Mavor Moore nominated actress, a three-time Juno nominated singer/songwriter, an award-winning screen actress, and a Gemini Award winning puppeteer.
“Jani is a remarkable artist, leader, mentor and activist,” says Colony Director Brian Quirt. “She brings a wealth of experience across many disciplines, a career that has spanned the country, and a wonderful sense of storytelling to her position at the Colony. I’m delighted that Jani’s voice will be central to our work next year, and that in return the Colony can offer her a place to explore exciting new works on her creative horizon.”
