Have you ever eavesdropped on a coffee shop conversation?

It’s okay; we all do it. When you listen in on a job interview or a first date, a study session or a heartfelt confession, you catch a glimpse into another person’s reality. Each of the latte-sipping strangers around you has a surprising story to tell.

In its upcoming production, Swallow-a-Bicycle Theatre takes coffee shop eavesdropping to the next level.

This August at the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival, Eavesdrop: The Coffee Shop Show comes to Remedy Café South Side on 109 St. The play is performed during the coffee shop’s regular hours, without disrupting its operations. If someone wants to sit down with an espresso and mind their own business, they can! But, sitting at the next table, you’ll enjoy a captivating theatre experience.

When you arrive, we’ll hand you wireless headphones that let you eavesdrop on six seemingly normal coffee-drinking patrons who each have burning secrets to share. You’ll meet a trio of old friends, a frustrated writer, a man searching for connection and a troubled stranger. You’ll listen not only to their words, but to their innermost thoughts and feelings.

After a whirlwind 45-minute performance that transports you to another world, you’ll remove the headphones to find yourself back in your local coffee shop… but you’ll never look at it the same way again.

Tickets $12.50 adults, $10 students/seniors
