What Gives? 2014
A group of young Edmonton theatre up-and-comers is back for a second round of their 2013 revival of Stewart Lemoine’s irresistibly catchy musical masterpiece What Gives? First staged at Fringe the Fifth in 1986, What Gives? is the story of two intrepid but stymied 1930s Manhattan songwriters who are unexpectedly visited by a pair of glamorous and alluringly-attired adventuresses. Secret glances and riveting dance numbers ensue!
Aidan Burke and Chase Jeffels are hilarious as tunesmiths Everett L. North and Pip Furlong. The surprising visitors are brilliantly brought to life by Zia Mizera as Allure Potemkin and Jasmine Zyp as Venice Drake.
The energetic, upbeat songs, with music by Gary Lloyd and R.J. Smart, include: Baby Legs, Shanghai Stir-fry, and Usual Shoes.
What Gives? is at Fringe BYOV Venue #28, Old Scona High School. 10523-84 Ave.
Performances run at 12:00 pm on Thursday, August 14 and Friday, August 15 and then again at 1:30 from Monday, August 18 to Thursday, August 21.
The company producing this show, ZyZi Theatre, is also doing another show, The Real Inspector Hound by Tom Stoppard, in the same venue.
