Art. Adventure. Sunscreen
Old Strathcona’s site-specific arts festival is here!
Late June. 10:58. Night. You’re standing in an alleyway with a group of people— a fifteen-year-old snapping gum, a sixty-something-year-old woman adjusting her sandals— laughing, joking. Waiting. Even though the sun has set, Whyte Avenue continues to bustle with life nearby. 11:00. Your guide appears. You have no idea what to expect. Since this morning, you’ve been chased along the North Saskatchewan River, left love notes in Gazebo Park, moshed in a swimming pool, trekked across the High Level Bridge, drew on walls, and watched a pile of treasured keepsakes go up in smoke. Welcome to the Found Festival.
The Found Festival presented by Print Machine is a site-specific, multidisciplinary arts festival that takes place in Edmonton’s Old Strathcona from June 26 – 29th, 2014. It’s a living, breathing showcase of dance, theatre, visual art, music, creative writing and more. Performances in this year’s festival include theatre in a grocery store, pool party music show, art in a back alley, and much more! Since its beginning in 2012, it’s been curated by the non-for-profit Common Ground Arts Society. Emerging artists submit proposals as early as November with ideas for pieces they would like to develop and present the upcoming summer in non-traditional venues. Our aim is to produce an event that is affordable, accessible, interactive, and empowering, encouraging artists to contribute to the cultural landscape of the city.
Tickets and Festival Passes are available at the Box Office throughout the festival (Dr. Wilbert McIntyre “Gazebo” Park – 104 Street and 83 Ave) and at the Opening Kickoff. Ticket prices range from Free – $10.00; Festival Passes $40.00. For more information, as well as a full schedule of events, please visit http://www.commongroundarts.ca/found-festival/2014-2/
