Downstage is now seeking submissions for programming the 2014-15 season in Motel, a flexible 50-seat black-box performance venue located in the EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts. Emerging and established artists and performing arts companies who are interested in showcasing their work in Motel are invited to submit proposals for consideration.
Upon the successful scheduling of a proposal, artists/companies will be contacted to arrange more specific details of the tenancy. The weekly rate for performances in Motel is $600 plus GST and applicable ticket fees. As of August 1, 2014, renters will be required to provide documentation of general liability insurance for the period of their rental – contact us for details.
Interested artists/companies, please submit a page-long project proposal that includes:
• the work to be presented
• the artists involved (if known)
• ideal presentation dates (please give more than one option)
• why Motel is the venue of choice for the project
We are seeking proposals for one or two week time slots, though shorter or longer projects will also be considered where possible. A weekly booking runs Sunday to Saturday, unless otherwise noted. Please submit your proposal via email to Interim Venue Manager Fiona Kennedy at fiona@downstage.ca and Artistic Director Simon Mallett at simon@downstage.ca. We will confirm receipt of your proposals, so if you do not receive a confirmation from Downstage within a week of your submission please contact us again.
Proposals will be accepted on an ongoing basis until all available dates are filled. However, tentative scheduling of projects will begin in the last week of May, 2014 and we anticipate availability to become limited very quickly, as demand for space typically exceeds the weeks available. Please see the attached PDF for the full call including available weeks.
