25 YEARS OF LIVE, LOCAL, PROFESSIONAL THEATRE
LETHBRIDGE, MAY 7, 2014 – Today New West Theatre announced our 2014/15 Season celebrating 25 years providing live, local, professional theatre for Southern Albertans. Our silver anniversary has something for everyone as we continue our mandate to produce broad-based theatre for Lethbridge and Southern Alberta audiences.
In celebration of our 25th season and Lethbridge Big Band’s 50th anniversary, we’re teaming to bring you THE RITZ Hits of The Big Band (July 3-26). Our fresh spin on crooner classics intertwined with witty comedy will feature a special guest artist every week who has ties to both organizations. Immediately following, we’re bringing you a sensational collection of summer tunes in SHAKE IT UP! (August 7-30). Dazzling dance, spectacular songs and crazy costumes will fill the Yates as we celebrate summer in true New West Theatre fashion.
Our Canadian Series presents Juno Productions’ JAKE’S GIFT (October 1-11) written and performed by Julia Mackey. This multi-award winning play follows a Canadian WW2 veteran’s reluctant return to Juno Beach for the 60th Anniversary of D-Day, where he meets Isabelle, a precocious ten year old of inquisitive nature. During December, we are bringing the past to life in JUBILEE The Best Of New West (December 15 – January 3) treating audiences to the best tunes, and most hilarious comedy from the past 25 years. At the same time, we’ll be showcasing our Theatre for Young Audiences production THE GREAT MUNSCH MYSTERY (December 22 – January 3) based on the books by Robert Munsch and adapted by Jeremy Mason. This production takes the youngest patrons (and those young at heart) on a who-dun-it extravaganza that will also tour Southern Alberta schools (January 5 – 16).
Additionally on May 7 New West Theatre announced a major fundraising initiative in celebration of our 25th Anniversary. Lethbridge Volkswagen has joined us as our SILVER ANNIVERSARY COMMUNITY PARTNER allowing us to raffle off a brand-new, 2015 Volkswagen Jetta. There are only 2500 tickets available at $25 each in celebration of our 25th season.
