Job (Edmonton): General Manager – Mile Zero Dance Society

Incorporated in 1985, Mile Zero Dance (MZD) is a non-profit charitable organization devoted to the development, artistic viability, and audience awareness of dance through its education, creation, and performance platforms. MZD plays an active and valuable role in collaborations and audience development, and works with others in a spirit that fosters creativity and vitality. MZD consistently produces a full and varied season, and Studio E, MZD’s studio space, is a hub of alternative performance and training activity, supporting work from artists of all disciplines.

Scope of Responsibility:

The General Manager works in tandem with the Artistic Director to implement the strategic and annual operating plans of MZD, as approved by the Board of Directors. This includes developing and evaluating finances, grant writing, production management, document and file management, contact management, communications, and overseeing the daily operations of the MZD office and studio.

General Duties:

Financial: Accounts payable/receivable; liaison with bookkeeper; CADAC reporting; payroll; T4A/T4 issuance; charitable tax receipt issuance; project/grant budgeting.

Administrative: Basic office management; liaison with Alberta Registries, CRA, AGLC, and various funding bodies; manage contracts; grant writing; final reporting; Board reporting; maintain membership databases; ensure compliance with MZD policies, procedures, and code of conduct; maintain ongoing communication with various stakeholders; supervise clerical/support staff.

Production: Event management/volunteer coordination; liaison with
media coordinator and Webmaster; studio/facility/rental management.

Qualifications:

• Degree or Diploma in Arts & Cultural Management, or at least two years experience working in a GM position for a charitable, non-profit arts organization
• Knowledge of Dance (local, regional, and national) an asset
• Highly organized, motivated, and able to manage many activities, tasks, and deadlines
• Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve within an adaptive, flexible, and ever-evolving environment
• Ability to prioritize situations, to work collaboratively, and to work alone
