Doctor Dolittle, Jr.

In November of 2014, the same Artistic Team that brought you 101 Dalmatians, Jr., The Jungle Book, Jr. and Aladdin, Jr. will produce Doctor Dolittle, Jr.

This charming musical, based on the classic tale by Hugh Lofting and inspired by the 1967 movie starring Rex Harrison (Eddie Murphy starred in the 1998 re-make) follows the story of a wacky but kind doctor who can talk to animals. Doctor Dolittle whisks us away on a journey from the small English village of Puddleby-in-the-Marsh to the farthest-flung corners of the world. When he attempts to help a seal named Sophie, the kind Doctor is wrongly accused of murder and ordered to stand trial before General Bellowes. Once pronounced innocent, Doctor Dolittle is free to continue with his search for the Great Pink Sea Snail – the oldest and wisest of the creatures on earth.

Anne of Green Gables, The Musical 

Horizon Players is thrilled to announce that we are producing Anne of Green Gables, the Musical in April 2015, a treasured Canadian show based on the book Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery. This adaptation by Don Harron and Norman Campbell has been running continuously since 1965 at the Charlottetown Festival, giving it the prestigious distinction of being Canada’s longest running musical.

At the turn of the century on Prince Edward Island, Matthew Cuthbert and his sister Marilla decide to take on an orphan boy as help for their farm. But they get an unexpected jolt when they’re mistakenly sent a girl instead: Anne (with an “e”) Shirley. A big dreamer with an unusual point of view, Anne is far removed from Marilla’s pragmatic ways, and it’s only on a trial basis that Marilla agrees to keep her – IF Anne can keep out of trouble. There’s just one problem…where trouble can be found, so can Anne, and usually she’s landed right smack dab in the middle of it! Anne of Green Gables, The Musical invites us along on one charming adventure after the next, as Anne stumbles her way through a series of scrapes, makes a bosom friend, and searches for (and finds) several kindred spirits. In the meantime, Matthew and Marilla discover that their lives have become a great deal richer, now that Anne is at Green Gables.
