Costume Stitcher

Fort Edmonton Park is looking for stitchers in preparation for the summer season of 2014. Using historical and modern sewing techniques, this person will create, alter, and repair historical costumes ranging from the 1840s to the 1920s. Attention to detail, along with the ability to work within tight deadlines, is integral to this position. The candidate must be very adaptable and able to work with a team, follow verbal directions and work independently.

Qualifications for this position include:

• Completion or current enrollment in a university or college program in technical theatre, costume
construction, clothing and textiles production OR equivalent experience.
• Ability to manipulate and alter patterns to fit various body types
• Accurate and efficient machine and hand sewing skills
• Excellent communication skills

Knowledge of historical clothing, aboriginal craftwork, corset making, millinery, dress making and tailoring experience would be considered assets.

The duration of the position is six weeks beginning April 14 and ending May 17, 2014 and may include working Saturdays. The rate of pay will be $15.00 per hour, 37.5 hrs per week. Hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with some flexibility.
