Swallow-a-Bicycle Theatre invites artists of all disciplines to participate in a Site-Specific Performance Tour (title TBA) in the Calgary Tower complex, as part of Sage Theatre’s Ignite! Festival in June 2014.
Production information:
Swallow-a-Bicycle and Sage Theatre are seeking artists with an interest in the creation of new work, and who wish to challenge their current creative practice via artistic experimentation with site-specific performance. We are proud to offer artists, from any discipline, an opportunity to create original work in unusual spaces, both public and private, throughout the Calgary Tower complex in downtown Calgary. Similar to the Freak Show and Site-Specific Spectacular productions that have previously taken place at the High Performance Rodeo, audiences will be taken on a walking tour between several short performances.
The Swallow-a-Bicycle team will select a well-known story – likely a fable or folk tale – to use as a backbone for the tour. Accepted artists will be asked to create an original 5-7 minute performance / experience that contributes to the narrative. Through a series of monthly weekend workshops, artists will work closely with mentors and fellow artists to create dynamic performances that will combine into a compelling, cohesive tour.

To be considered for this project, please submit a description (maximum two pages) of:
• Your creative practice
• Your experience with performance creation
• Your reasons for wanting to participate in the project
• Your interest in site-specific performance / creation
You may also submit additional materials, including: CV, video, reviews, surprises.
