“I am the twin brother of a civil war that ravaged the country where I was born.”
A sudden phone call sends nineteen-year old Wahab out into the night, fighting a blistering snowstorm as he travels to his dying mother’s hospital room. But his real struggles are those in his mind, as he sifts through how he has come to be where and who he is.
This poetic and striking text reveals a young man at the end of his adolescence forced to confront his uneasy relationship to his mother and his memories of the war-torn country they left behind.
Downstage is honoured to produce the first run in English of this intimate solo piece from Wajdi Mouawad, an internationally-acclaimed Quebecois playwright known for his epic, emotional and highly theatrical work, in a translation by Linda Gaboriau.
