Graffiti Art Competition
Hosted by Toy Guns Dance Theatre
About:
Toy Guns Dance Theatre is hosting a graffiti art competition – all styles of visual/installation art are welcome. Your contribution will help Toy Guns with their 2014 Fringe tour to Winnipeg, Calgary, and Edmonton. They will be producing a new piece by Jake Hastey tentatively titled Red Wine, French Toast, and the Best Sex You’ve Ever Had.

Competition Details:
The deadline to enter is March 1, 2014

Artists may enter as an individual or in a group (up to 5 people).

Artists will receive a wall space (interior wall minimum 30 sq ft) as their canvas, which will be selected by a random draw. Basic supplies will be available, including rollers, brushes, trays, limited paint varieties, paper cloths, and scrapers. Artists are also welcome to bring any other supplies they desire. The competition will commence on Friday, March 14th at 3pm and conclude Saturday, March 15th at 3pm – 24 hours to create a masterpiece! We will also have an additional 24-hour creation phase on Friday March 7th at 3pm for artists who wish to spray paint or use materials that would take more than the 3-hour venting and heating period before the reception held on Saturday March 15.

Admission is $50, and will include the wall space, the use of supplies, and two complimentary tickets to the reception. Additional tickets will be available for purchase at a discounted price of $5 for artists participating in groups.

The art will be judged by a panel of experienced/educated artists from the community, including Jeannette Egan (Smith), BFA, BEd; Aisnley Hillyard, BFA, Dip, Good Women Dance Collective

The grand prize is a $500 gift certificate to a local art supply store. Second and third place prizes will be awarded along with a People’s Choice award that will be based on votes by guests in attendance at the reception.

What’s in it for you?
This is a great opportunity for artists looking for a unique opportunity to build their portfolio and have their art showcased for local artists and others in the community to view. Plus it’s a chance to win some fantastic prizes, and also enjoy an evening filled with entertainment, socializing and networking, food, drinks, and fun!
