Event (Edmonton): February Edmonton Scene Study – Grindstone Theatre

grindstone-logoHello fellow Theatre Practitioners!

What: Edmonton Scene Study
Who: Grindstone Theatre (Special guest hosted by Stewart Lemoine)
Where: Sun and Moon Visionaries (10125 97 Ave NW)
When: Sunday February 2nd, 2pm-5pm

Edmonton Scene Study is for emerging and professional theatre practitioners (actors, directors, playwrights…) to share in the reading of plays. The world of theatre is so rich and vast that we should be encouraged to explore it. Not only does the play come to life as we read it aloud, it broadens our knowledge of theatre, our skills in cold reading and warms the relationships we have in this theatre community. All theatre lovers are invited to join the group, enjoy meeting fellow artists, and share a scene from a play.

Stewart Lemoine excels as a prodigious playwright, producer and director, whose body of work encompasses over 65 plays. His works are all comedies, yet run the gamut from screwball farce to the wistfully reflective, taking place in exotic international locales and/or right here in Edmonton. His work has garnered attention for this city when performed nationally and internationally, and Edmonton Journal theatre writer Liz Nicholls aptly sums up Stewart’s value to our artistic scene when she writes, “His impressive multi-faceted career, spanning more than 25 years is intimately linked to Edmonton’s national profile as a ‘theatre town.’ ” Since 1994, he and Teatro have resided at the Varscona Theatre in Old Strathcona, and have consistently produced four productions a year, including both revivals and new works. Lemoine has also worked extensively with young artists- forming an adjunct company of young performers called Teatro Bambino in the 1990’s and now giving many young professionals their first post-graduate theatrical opportunities. Under his mentorship Teatro reserves one production slot in every season for a new play or musical by a budding Edmonton writer. He’s also taught workshops for playwrights at all levels, and has had particular success teaching elementary-aged children in Edmonton Public Schools. His various other Varscona projects have included the hugely successful improvised soap opera Die-Nasty, and the Euro-style variety show Oh Susanna.

Edmonton Scene Study will be hosted once a month at different theatre locations all over the city. So please come and be inspired and join the Edmonton Scene Study group on facebook for all updates.

Sincerely,
