Costumes – Show Designer
The Costume Designer is a person hired to function as a intermediary or interpreter of the original script design for the current remount of the script. Reporting to the Production Manager they work with the productions Lead Director, the Directing Team and the Production Teams during the remount years of a script where the major design has already been established. They are to oversee the re-execution of the original script designs plus add personal interpretation and imputing of their own design flavours into places of change or modification in the current remount. Their function is to the Original Design a little like a Fight or Dance Captain would to the Fight Director or Choreographer.
Because the Passion Play is a large outdoor theatre with a mandate for authenticity the costumes are used to create effects and focus usually reserved for lighting. We own the entire large stock of costumes from which to pull for show design and there is also a reasonable budget allocated to new builds, buys or augmentations based on current design desires.
This position is a flat rate contract, based on having a minimum of a three day work week on site during rehearsals (Starting mid May and Ending early July) plus fees allocated to include time spent in design meetings with Directors and working time, to meet design deadlines in February, March and April.
