Cat On A Leash Presents:

Föda: A Culinary Cabaret

Cat on a Leash Creations is seeking inspired artists for their event Föda: A Culinary Cabaret, which celebrates the way our need for food materializes from the ground up. This boutique event will take place April 4th and 5th 2014 at the historic Hughes House Bed and Breakfast located on Edmonton Trail and 11th Ave NE Calgary, AB. At this event guests will be able to nosh on food prepared by a local award-winning chef while taking in the unique contributions of local Alberta artists. Acts may approach the subject of food from any perspective.

We are looking for performers to submit pieces, 3 – 10 minutes long and suitable for an intimate cabaret. These performances can include but are not limited to poetry, dance, theatre, comedy, music, etc.
We are also seeking submissions that could be presented throughout the house ie: hallways, guest rooms. These submissions can include but are not limited to: visual artists, roaming actors, installations etc.

Proposals should include:

A description (one page or less) of what you would like to create, which:
• Explains what aspect of food (production, consumption, ritual etc) you would like to explore.
• Describes what forms you would use, a general approach, and roughly the mood and aesthetic of the piece
• Describes any potential technical requirements.
A list of collaborators
Support materials, including resumes, images, articles, etc. of previous work.

Note: Artists should be prepared for suggested adjustments to their projects for compatibility with the space and the other installations

Ideal Projects Would:

• Be multi-faceted
• Contribute to a well-executed, non-conventional cabaret style event
• Be feasible
• Be able to set up and take down quickly without compromising the interior of the BnB.

Note: the performance space is shared with a large functioning antique piano, which can be used.

Artists will be provided with an honorarium. Ticket sales will be divided amongst artists and organizers of the event.

Interested artists should submit a proposal to producers Kathryn Smith and Geneviève Paré at catleash.creations@gmail.com by, February 16th 2014. Proposals will be given priority based on feasibility, artistic merit, and variety.

Note: Cat on a Leash would be happy to help artists get in contact with other potential collaborators if they are looking for individuals with specific skills.
