U of A Studio delivers an ode to the imagination with Bloody Poetry

As the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, one of the colourful characters from Bloody Poetry, opening tonight at Studio Theatre, commands:

“Let’s peel open our brains, find the soul itself!
Let’s blast ourselves with electrical force –
cut ourselves open,
wreck ourselves,
turn ourselves inside out!
To find out what we are, what we can be!”

Haunted by the ghosts of what could be, Bloody Poetry entangles poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, gothic novelist Mary Shelley, poet Lord Byron and their muse Claire Clairemont Godwin in an enduring love circle, swirling with lyrical language, and swimming in provocative ideas.
