Urban Curvz Theatre is thrilled to present
The 3rd Annual Girls Gone Wilde, Late Night Cabaret
There is a notable absence of female presence in current stories found in books, television, movies and theatre. Strong female characters and perspectives are the exception rather than the norm in the majority of stories featured in popular culture. Urban Curvz seeks to counter this imbalance by providing a platform for female representation both in the stories produced and in the artists involved.
We are currently accepting submissions from playwrights/creators*. We are seeking submissions from a diverse array of disciplines: pieces that use clown, movement, song, puppets, masks etc, as well as conventional scripts, are encouraged to apply.
The criteria for submissions draws from the Bechdel Test:
• pieces must feature two or more female characters
• the characters must speak to each other, and
• they must speak to each other about something other than a man.
(If you are interested in learning more about the Bechdel Test check out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLF6sAAMb4s)
*Boys are welcome to join in the fun!
Playwrights whose pieces are chosen for inclusion in the Cabaret will have the opportunity to work with a dramaturge (provided by Alberta Playwrights Network) to further develop their piece.
