Magpie-Cold-reads-2Magpie Theatre is casting two shows this year, Confessions of the Hopeless Romantic and Preach: The Former Things have Passed Away, for which we seek performers and stage management.

About the audition:
Please prepare two contrasting monologues. Be sure to show us some comedy, some contemporary, and some of your awesome self.
You may also be asked to read sides from one of the plays with another performer.

Kim – Mid to late 20s (from central London)
Alice – Mid to late 20s
Ivee – Mid to late 20s
Roselyn – Mid to late 20s
Elle – Mid to late 20s (pronounced Ell-ie)

IMPORTANT NOTE: The play contains mature subject matter, sexual themes and coarse language. Please only submit if you are comfortable with the above warnings.

About the play:
A group of friends has the run of their local hangout – a cozy coffee shop where their antics are a welcomed custom. As the girls age through lust, temptation, love, heartbreak and healing, the audience is invited to catch up with them each time they meet in their cafe. In the end their question echoes, “How did I get here?” As they lean on each other to remember what keeps bringing them back.

Anita – late 30s to early 40s (The mother of a devout christian family
Job – late 30s to early 40s (The father of a devout christian family)
Sarah – late teens to early 20s (The daughter of Job and Anita)
Eden – Mid to late 20s (a recluse with a popular podcast channel about meditation)
Ewan – Mid to late 20s (an insomniac who has suffered alien abduction)
Polly – Mid to late 20s (a stripper in hiding)
John – Mid 20s to 30s (an anti-government activist)

About the play:
Your friends and neighbours are discovering mysterious markings on their bodies. Is this a sign from God? A warning? Are our bodies being polluted? Have we finally made extra-terrestrial contact? Will you be next? Each of these character’s has a message to preach, but which one will save you?
