Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Friendster, LinkedIn – and now tech- theatre group PIPS:lab wants you to join one more – Diespace.nl. There is one prerequisite though – you have to be dead to join. With an aging population set to increase the proportional amount of people 65+ dramatically in the near future, the pioneers of PIPS:Lab see a commercial opportunity in a brave new online forum – the first active internet community for the deceased. On Diespace 3.0 you upload your soul so that you can continue communicating from the afterlife. You’re not going to heaven, you’re not going to hell – you’re going to Diespace.nl! The audience plays the roles of invitees to a Diespace 3.0 sales pitch, interacting with the technology in a performance that blends music, theatre, film and a healthy dose of comedy into an absurd theatre/media installation.

Born in the underground party scene of Amsterdam, PIPS:lab is known throughout the Netherlands for producing raw, expressive, visually-stunning, interactive multimedia performances. The six members of this tech-theatre collective have emerged as do-it-yourself masters of the unexpected. In confronting our beliefs about death, PIPS:lab has invented a performance at the cross-roads of theatre, technology and interactive installation – high-tech turned lowbrow. Diespace 3.0 is an innovative look at life, death and the Internet. You have a death wish but are you hesitant to pursue your dream?
