HISTORY BEHIND THE STORY:

From the late 1960’s through the 1980’s women were returning to work in droves and the new trend of the duel income family, who were still producing 2.1 kids, had moved away from their support systems, sprouting the need for a place care for their preschool children. What sprung up were unregulated daycares, most of which were run by families people trusted from ‘the neighborhood’.

[MR. REYNOLDS] 50-65. Caucasian. Without healing his childhood he allows himself to marry and be in a position where he is responsible for caring for and protecting children. He believes he doesn’t owe them anything, he was abused as well so, so what? He has no regard for Mrs. Reynolds and consistently dismisses her. His demeanor is bubbly and likable, quite unlike his wife’s, who is abrupt and dominating. Trickster. Manipulator. Abuser. The Reynolds Family lives in a gorgeous home and it’s clear they have money – probably inherited as neither one of them works. So from the outside looking in one might wonder why they have opened their home to looking after children . . .Principal Role.
[MRS. REYNOLDS] 50-65. Caucasian. Caught in the past and most likely an abuse sufferer herself has seen it all and has not yet been able to bring herself to fully admit her husband’s sickness. Up to this point she still had faith in him, at one time not long ago, she was wooed by this man and believed in him against all others. Beautiful. Worn. Strong. Defeated. The Reynolds Family lives in a gorgeous home and it’s clear they have money – probably inherited as neither one of them works. So from the outside looking in one might wonder why they have opened their home to looking after children . . .Principal Role.
[ABBY TATE] 3-5.Caucasian. An innocent, shy girl with a dose of intrigue. Her hair is perfectly set. Filled with wonder and is the new focus of Mr. Reynolds deviant behavior. Principal Role. If you know of any young girls that might be worth meeting please pass this along. No experience needed.
[MRS. TATE] 25-30.Caucasian. Mrs. Tate is the new career woman you’d find starring on TV show. Her hair and clothes coincide with her bouncy care free personality. When she picks Abby up at the end of her first day she senses something is not quite right which is confirmed when she sees Mai jump out of a window. Principal Role.
[MR. TATE] 35-40.Caucasian. A clean cut, well-to-do career man with a perfect family. He is driving his family out to the Reynold’s for Abby’s first day. Actor Role. Must be able to drive.
[ROSE] 16-21.Female. Red Head. Caucasian. Rosemary has a body image obsession and her meek personality reminds the audience of the effects of her long time abuse. Although she is no longer the focus of her father’s sexual abuse she cannot free herself, suffering similarly to her mother. Principal Role
[MAI] 12-16.First Nations. Female. This young thin, beautiful Aboriginal girl is the Reynolds foster child who has suffered repeated sexual abuse courtesy of Mr. Reynolds. She has a 1 yr old child by Mr. Reynolds and is in the early stages of yet another pregnancy. She is quiet and meek but very tormented by the abuse which leads her to a suicidal death. Principal Role.
[ANTHONY ALFONSO] 3-5. A cute ITALIAN boy with wavy hair and brown cord bell bottoms and cream polyester shirt. He is already a fan of the ladies, he knows he is a cutie and would have every auntie pinching his cheeks at a family BBQ. Principal Role. If you know of any young Italian boys who might be worth meeting please pass this along. No experience needed.
[TALK SHOW HOST] 40-50.Male. Morning Talk Show Host talks about the new trends of a career-focused mother on the Radio. Actor Role.
[MAILMAN] 45 – 60. Caucasian. Bill the mailman knows what Mr. Reynolds is up to and does nothing. Actor Role
[MR. ALFONSO] 35-45. This Italian looking man is seen speeding out of a residential neighborhood once he retrieves his son Anthony from the Reynolds Care. Actor Role. Must be able to drive.

SYNOPSIS: Abigail Tate experiences more in one day at the Reynolds, than the sum of her four years of her young life. Set in the 1970’s, this fantasy drama shows the impact of the new duel income family unit and touches on the destruction of the aboriginal family during the “scoop” period. Roland Road hits on some of the mishandling children endured in before better social structures were in place to protect children and unauthorized adoptions were stopped.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL SEXUAL ABUSE IS IMPLIED AND THE YOUNG ACTORS ARE NEVER PLACED IN AN ONSCREEN POSITION OF COMPROMISE.
