Fire Exit Theatre is holding auditions for the world premiere performance of
“Here Breaks the Heart: The Loves of Christina Rossetti”
By Diane Tucker
Directed by Mark Lewandowski

Christina Rossetti lives in a time and place where being a passionate, ambitious poet and a devout Victorian gentlewoman are considered mutually exclusive. We see the young Christina struggle as she observes the creative freedom her bohemian brother enjoys and the peace and certainty that Christian faith gives her pious sister. Christina wants both what her society expects of her and what her unruly heart demands. She prays that somehow one need not preclude the other, for both grow and flower together already, inside her own soul.
But can she live the life she desires? Can she do it without too great a cost?

Fire Exit Theatre is in its 12th season of creating a unique brand of theatre in Calgary. We exist to provoke dialogue on stage and off around the questions of faith: what we believe, what we don’t believe, and why. We believe theatre should not simply entertain, but change, artists and patrons alike.
