S T A I N S
by Leslea Kroll
A satirical salute to fracking, Stains spoofs our addiction to oil. Playwright Leslea Kroll has created a grotesque and outrageous PetroState bureaucracy ready to impose its will on this year’s Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival.
Ethylene and Toluene, two Sisters in the Ministry of Stainable Resources, invite you to join them in their Daily Community Commencement at Venue 7 in the Yardbird Suite. Gasoline worshippers Toluene and Ethylene are devoted to all things greasy. They interrogate Non-Believers, take vows to the Ministry, and clean up oil spills while singing hymns of dedication and courage. Castor Canadensis, in full beaver glory, arrives to encourage Ethylene, the more innocent of the pair, to wake up and “slap her tail” against the harmful ways of the Ministry.
Will Ethylene renounce her vows? Will she understand the path of destruction she supports? Will she recover from the gift of a deformed and toxic fish – smelly and greasy and “just not right”?
Join Toluene and Ethylene as they expel Non-Believers while liberating all that heirloom organic matter … ‘as above, so below’.
Under the direction of celebrated Fringe veteran Jeff Page, Stains features a cast of acclaimed performers: Rebecca Starr, Michelle Todd and talented newcomer Merran Carr-Wiggin.
