Hello all
Hope the summer is providing you some time to relax and reflect.
What follows is a request.
So… first of all
thank you for taking the time to get this far.
Theatre Alberta is a service organization which means, quite simply, that it exists to provide services to the theatre community of Alberta: the whole theatre community – elementary, junior high, senior high and post-secondary drama students and their teachers, professional and non-professional actors, playwrights, directors, designers, stage managers, technicians, and rural and urban community and professional theatre groups.
Theatre is a practical art meaning it needs to be practiced.
So an organization that purports to serve the community needs to dedicate itself to providing opportunities for people to do just that.
And that’s what Theatre Alberta does.
We provide opportunities:
Artstrek for young people and the theatre artists/educators who work with them
Workshops by Request for theatre practitioners in all disciplines and rural communities who might lack access to the necessary expertise
Dramaworks and PlayWorks Ink workshops for adult learners
Emerge auditions for our next generation of actors
The most comprehensive playscript library in Western Canada for anyone interested in things theatrical
Promotion of the community’s events, needs and dreams online and in our publications
Financial (and moral) support for the Alberta High School Drama Festival Association, Alberta Playwrights’ Network (APN), and the Alberta section of the Canadian Institute for Theatre Technology (CITT), and all of their members combined
Some of you will already know what I have just told you but this year there’s something else we need to talk about.
Above and beyond all of our regular programming an organization dedicated to service needs to step in “come hell and high water.” Many artists and arts organizations in this province suffered tremendous losses during the recent floods in Calgary, High River, Canmore, and the Siksika First Nation and Theatre Alberta has been actively assisting to coordinate information and resources.
Now we would like to step up and do a bit more.
We invite you to stop by for:
a snack and some entertainment, maybe a few door prizes… on us
a beverage… on you (cash bar, but proceeds to us)
a forum on arts advocacy… for you
a donation… from you with proceeds split 50/50 between the Alberta Arts Rebuild Fund and Theatre Alberta to continue providing the services necessary to the practice of theatre and the benefit of the community
At the biggest celebration of theatre in this province we WILL celebrate and we will also reach out to our southern sisters and brothers and embody in practice what it means to be a community and what it means to serve.
Thank you in advance for your help and continued support.
Sincerely,
Michele Fleiger (Brown)
Board President
