Or, – A Neo-Restoration Comedy at the Edmonton Fringe
1669: Sex, Drugs & Rock n’ Roll.
Trunk Theatre presents the Alberta premiere of Liz Duffy Adams’ literary sex farce Or, at the 2013 Edmonton International Fringe Festival. The play takes place during a tumultuous night in the life of Aphra Behn, poet, spy, and the first professional female playwright. Aphra tries to finish her new play by its morning deadline between interruptions from her sudden new love, actress Nell Gwynne; her complicated royal love, King Charles II; and her dangerous ex-love, double agent William Scot. Against a backdrop of a long-drawn out war and a counter-culture of free love, cross-dressing and youthful rebellion, 1669 looks a lot like 1969.
“a playful, funny and inventive comedy…Ms. Adams’ smartly conceived unraveling of figures corseted in history honors the remarkable facts of Behn’s groundbreaking career. (The New York Times)
Or, is directed by Amy DeFelice (Mojo Mickybo) and stars Clarice Eckford (Doubt), Kristi Hansen (Pith!) and Garett Ross (Jack Goes Boating).
